Reminds me of that tv show (or movie? reminded me of the twilight zone but horror style) I saw as a child about this guy who moved into a mansion when its other owner died, with no extra expense at all, great deal right? Cept it was haunted. Not by a ghost but by a shadow, the only thing they told him was to make sure that he kept all the lights on, no matter what, as they showed him all lights through out the entire house with it's excessive amount of light bulbs and the closet that held the extra bulbs he would need to use.
He thought they were all being ridiculous until he realized it was true when it ate his pet bird and left its bloody corpse behind because he didn't fix a light bulb. That's when he grew crazy from the fright and the annoyance of never being able to sleep without always having the lights on.
Setting up a trap through out the whole mansion with small animals and in cages he lured it in by turning the light off in each room and having him follow a path to the end where he had big spot lights ready to blast the shadow. He did end up killing the shadow but was left blinded, being left in eternal darkness. As though the shadow had still won in the end.
That's what this painting makes me think of, brilliant though.
